This tournament is open to all 13U–19U competitive teams. The US Youth Soccer Minnesota State Cup is a tournament designed to select the Minnesota league team or Midwest Regional team at each age level and gender to represent Minnesota at the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships. Regional winners will go on to compete in the US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Each year a Cup Committee is formed and reviews the US Youth Soccer National Championship Policies and Minnesota State Cup Rules.
Note: Teams have the option to enter either the Minnesota State Cup or Presidents Cup but may NOT enter both.
Champions were crowned and regional tickets were booked on the final day of the 2018 Minnesota State Cup. In a tournament that started with 172 teams, 14 were crowned State Cup champions! The Minnesota State Cup is the first leg in the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series and home to the highest level of club soccer in the state.
The event concluded on Sunday, May 20 at Kingston Park in Cottage Grove. Winners in the 13U–19U, boys and girls age groups will represent Minnesota at the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships. Teams will compete June 22–27 in Westfield, Ind. with the ultimate goal of heading to Frisco, Texas to vie for a national title.
In the boy’s division both the 16U REV and 19U Sporting St. Croix were crowned back-to-back champions. The girls 16U Minnesota Thunder Academy, U18 MapleBrook and 19U Minneapolis United teams also defended their championship titles.
We are also excited to invite Tonka Fusion 2005 Boys and the Minnesota Thunder Academy 2002 girls the opportunity to compete in the new elite Minnesota United FC Division of USA Cup. The MNUFC Division will be offered to two age groups in 2018. Minnesota State Cup Champions and teams selected from US Youth Soccer Minnesota Olympic Development Program will compete in this select tournament with international teams.
The Minnesota State Cup highlights the exceptional talent in our state which continues to improve and increase each year. This is confirmed by the attendance of more than 60 college coaches from across the Midwest, many of whom commented on tremendous ability the players displayed on the fields. Thank you to the players, parents, and coaches for their participation and good sportsmanship. Thank you to the State Referee Committee, Coon Rapids Soccer Club, Cottage Grove United and the Cup Committee for their contributions to the success of this year’s event.
