Minnesota State Cup

General Information

REGISTRATION | $900/team
Registration is open for 2020 USYS Minnesota State Cup.

OVERVIEW
This tournament is open to all 13U–19U competitive teams. The US Youth Soccer Minnesota State Cup is a tournament designed to select the Minnesota league team or Midwest Regional team at each age level and gender to represent Minnesota at the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships. Regional winners will go on to compete in the US Youth Soccer National Championships.

Note: Teams have the option to enter either the Minnesota State Cup or Presidents Cup but may NOT enter both.

SEEDING
In order, the seeding for USYS State is as follows:

  1. Previous State Cup 
  2. Current National League Teams (including regional conferences)
  3. Current Premier I teams using past results
  4. Current Premier II teams using past results
  5. Current First Division teams using past results
  6. Current Black teams using past results
  7. Current Blue teams using past results
  8. Other factors as determined by MYSA

FORMATS
The following formats will be used during the 2020 Minnesota State Cup. 

5 Team Age Groups
Single round robin within the 5-team group. After all the games are played, the teams will be re-ranked. Finals: 1st place team vs. 2nd place team

6 Teams
All teams play 3 games with the top 3 seeded teams playing the other 3 teams. After all the games are played, the teams will be re-ranked.
Semifinals:
1st place team vs. 4th place team

2nd place team vs. 3rd place team

8, 9, or 10 Teams
Single round robin within the groups. Semifinals:
Group A 1st place team vs. Group B 2nd place team

Group B 1st place team vs. Group A 2nd place team
 

12 Teams
Single round robin within the groups. Semifinals:
Group A 1st place team vs. Wildcard* (best 2nd place team in all the groups).
Group B 1st place team vs. Group C 1st place team

*If the Wildcard team is in Group A, then the following will happen for Semifinals:
Group A 1st place team vs. Group C 1st place team

Group B 1st place team vs. Wildcard

Nov. 1: Registration opens
Jan. 6: Registration closes
May 1–3: Play-in Games
May 14–17: Group Play
May 29–31: Semi-Finals & Finals
June 19–24: US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional
Championships (Westfield, Ind.)
July 20–26: US Youth Soccer National
Championships (Overland Park, Kan.)

Location: Maple Grove


All games will be in Maple Grove just off of I-94, I-694 and I-494 freeways

Fields

A total of 16 fields* will be used for State Cup:

  • 4 turf fields at Fernbrook Fields
  • 1 turf field at Maple Grove High School
  • 1 turf field at Osseo High School
  • 1 grass field at Fernbrook Elementary
  • 4 grass fields at Gleason Fields
  • 1 turf and 4 grass fields at Maple Grove Sports Dome
