Re: Update on National Sports Center (NSC) 2009 Events

On Tuesday evening, March 24, 2009, MYSA and NSC officials met to discuss the missions and goals of each organization, and how the two organizations may be able to partner in the future. MYSA is hopeful about the 2010 season and beyond.

At the March 24th meeting, NSC officials also submitted sanctioning paperwork for their 2009 events asking that MYSA agree to approve the sanctioning applications by the next day, March 25, 2009. MYSA agreed to take the matter before the MYSA Board of Directors for further review and discussion. As a result, the MYSA Board of Directors held an emergency meeting last night, April 1, 2009.

With a quorum present, the MYSA Board of Directors thoroughly reviewed and discussed the matter. A motion was made and seconded to not accept the NSC’s sanctioning applications. The motion was approved.

MYSA wants to once again state that anyone wishing to participate in the NSC events for 2009 may certainly do so. However, because the NSC chose last year to have US Club Soccer sanction their events for 2009, MYSA/US Youth Soccer membership benefits, such as use of US Youth Soccer member passes and MYSA’s insurance do not transfer to an event not sanctioned by MYSA, a US Youth Soccer State Association. The reverse would also be true; US Club Soccer membership benefits do not transfer to an event not sanctioned by US Club Soccer. It is MYSA’s understanding that the NSC has taken steps, or is taking steps, to address the pass and insurance matters.
